What is Mastic Asphalt?
An asphalt, which is specially formulated to provide ideal water proofing and other mechanical properties (Versatile & Durable).
Mastic Asphalt is a black material usually solid at ambient temperature which softens then melts when heated. It can be poured and then spread or cast to accommodate almost any shape after spreading, it does NOT need to be compacted by rollers or machines.
Aggregates - Fillers - Bitumen
All Asphalts are a blend of these three basic components, sometimes with the addition of proprietary additives to enhance some aspect of their performance.
The bitumen content of Mastic Asphalt is much higher than in road grades asphalt. Mastic Asphalt is described as being rich in Bitumen and results in a material which is 100% waterproof.
Area's it can be used on are:
- Roofing - Mainly Flat & Low Pitched Roofing
- Elevated Car Park Decks / Lorry Service Decks
Water proofing is essential for these structures, Mastic Asphalt is the best material for the job, it can also be used as a lining for large water proofing containers i.e swimming pools, industrial storage tanks etc.
It is a skilled operation, Mastic Asphalt Spreaders have undertaken a four year apprenticeship.
